Tower Trail

Tower Trail Hogansville’s Tower Trail takes its name from an early 1900s water tower located near the current Hogansville Elementary School. The tower, which resembles the battlements of a castle, was never part of the city’s water system. Instead, it was used by the Hines Cannery, which produced Hines Brunswick Stew and Hines Georgia Hash until the plant closed in the 1950s. Over the decades, vegetation grew up around the tower, and it was largely forgotten.

As part of its mission to preserve Hogansville’s heritage, the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) envisioned a walking trail around the historic tower. With funding from the Hogansville Charitable Trust, a grant from the Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program, and generous support from local citizens—including financial contributions and land donations—the trail became a reality.

  • Phase I, completed in 2010 and designed by Precision Planning of Lawrence, GA, included removal of overgrown vegetation, installation of interpretive signage, and the creation of the first section of the trail.

  • Phase II extended the trail downhill toward Oak Street, ending near the city water plant.

  • Phase III connected the trail to downtown Hogansville, extending from the outdoor classroom to High Street near City Hall.

The Tower Trail is now a scenic, educational, and recreational pathway for residents and visitors, highlighting Hogansville’s history and providing a safe and enjoyable walking experience.
